Feb 1843 Joseph Smith tells William Clayton about the doctrine of plural marriage and advises Clayton that he can have as many wives as he wants, ... Smith also identifies Eliza R. Snow, Louisa Beman, and Desdemona W. Fullmer as some of his other wives.

 

Eliza Roxey Snow (Smith) (Young), 1804-87, married Joseph Smith on June 29, 1842, at age thirty-eight. After his death, she married Brigham Young for time in October 1844 ... became the second General Relief Society president of the Latter-day Saint church.

 

Martha McBride (Knight) (Smith) (Kimball), 1805-1901, married Joseph Smith in August 1842, at age thirtyseven. Joseph married her as the widow of Vinson Knight, another important early bishop, with whom she had lived from 1826 to July 31, 184

 

Eliza Partridge (1820-1885) Autobiography covering the period 1820-1847.  Plural wife of Joseph Smith and later Amasa Lyman.  Typescript HBLL.

 

Rhoda Richards (Smith) (Young), 1784-1879. The sister of Apostle Willard Richards, Joseph Smith's close friend, she married Joseph on June 12, 1843, at age fifty-eight. After joseph's death, she married Brigham Young for time on January 31, 1846, but apparently never lived in his household, living instead with relatives the rest of her life.
